I Don’t Think I Can Write
Nick Provo

I told my girl the news today,
I was to beat the enemy sore,
I told of how I’d fight for freedom,
In the war to end all wars.

I’m on my way to the battle front,
My ship heads out tonight,
I’m going to honor the family name,
I won’t forget to write.

We’re just about to land the ship,
I can’t wait to see the grass,
Our captains are filling us in,
On tanks, grenades, and gas.

It’s getting dark and we’re unpacking,
We’re quickly losing light,
We have to get up bright and early,
I won’t forget to write.

The war has been insane for me,
My platoon’s taken heavy fire,
At least half of them have been gunned down,
The situation was dire.

My hand was just blown off in the fight,
I’m lucky to have my life,
But the enemy is running towards me,
I don’t think I can write.
